If you’ve seen photos of Hunza Valley online, you probably think it’s stunning.
But let me tell you — no photo does justice to the real thing.
I went to Hunza for the first time expecting beautiful views and cold weather. What I got? A life experience I’ll never forget.
Here’s what surprised me most on my first trip to Hunza:
Table of Contents
Toggle1. The People Were Incredibly Kind
I’ve traveled across many cities, but Hunza felt different. Locals were kind, respectful, and always ready to help — especially when they found out I was traveling solo.
Shopkeepers didn’t overcharge, strangers offered directions without being pushy, and everyone called me “sister.”
That respect? It made me feel safe and welcome the entire time.
2. The Views Hit You Differently in Person
You think you’ve seen mountains before — until you stand in front of Rakaposhi or watch the sunset from Eagle’s Nest.
Even if you’re not a “nature person,” you’ll pause and just… stare.
Everywhere you look, there’s a postcard view.
3. It’s More Affordable Than I Thought
I expected everything to be expensive (because tourist spot, right?).
But I was surprised — you can eat, stay, and explore Hunza without burning your wallet.
- Guesthouses start at Rs. 2,000/night
- Local meals? Rs. 300–500
- Entry to forts and lakes? Cheap or free
4. The Internet is Pretty Bad (and That’s a Good Thing)
I struggled with Wi-Fi and mobile data… and then I loved it.
No notifications. No scrolling. Just peace.
I talked to people. Wrote in my journal. Watched stars instead of stories.
Hunza forces you to unplug — and it’s refreshing.
Final Thoughts
My first trip to Hunza wasn’t perfect.
But it was real, raw, and absolutely worth it.
If you’ve never been — go. Just go.
And if you’ve already visited — you know exactly what I mean.
